Faith isn’t convincing yourself God’s Word is true. It is being persuaded in your heart that God is good. Faith is a response to knowing and trusting in God. Faith isn’t a performance we do to seek God’s approval or earn His favor and blessings. Biblical faith is a response to knowing God’s character.

Have you ever noticed how many times Jesus said to someone He healed or set free, “Your faith has made you whole”? In every case, these people had heard about Jesus, who He was, and what He could do. This information touched their hearts and provided them with hope in their hopeless situation. Some will say their faith was in the fact they “acted” on that knowledge. But the real truth is their actions didn’t cause or generate faith; it was what they believed in their hearts about Jesus.

For many years as a missionary in Africa, we held large open-air events that tens of thousands attended. Each evening, I did my best to help the masses of people see who Jesus is. I would share stories from the gospels about how He healed people or set them free from demons. I would tell how Jesus told us when we see Him we see God. I learned long ago that the anointing was on the love of God. If we help people see who Jesus is, we help them see who God is because He is love (1 John 4:8).

If you boil down the true essence of what faith is, it is a response to God’s love!

Jesus walked by faith because He knew how much His Father loved Him. He understood that if His disciples knew the same kind of love He had experienced from His Father, they too would walk by faith as He did.

“As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Now remain in my love” (John 15:9).

Our great quest in life should be to know the same love Jesus had from His Father.
